CHARLES W. FREY

Charles W. Frey, age 94, was born on June 2, 1925, in Bryan, Ohio, and died November 17, 2019, in Perrysburg, Ohio. He was the son of the late Carl H. and Fern E. (Shackley) Frey.

He graduated Pleasant Mills, Indiana, High School in 1943. He worked for Kraft Cheese prior to joining the Navy in April of 1944, during World War II. He was honorably discharged as Radioman Second Class in February 1946.

Charles married Frances Jane Lemley on May 15, 1948. He was employed as general manager of Central Indiana Railway in Noblesville, Indiana, from 1949 until 1967. In December of 1952, he and Frances had their first child, William Joseph Frey, followed by a daughter, Lou Ann Frey, in April of 1954. In 1967, he joined the Norfolk Western Railroad in the sales department and moved with his family to Toledo, Ohio.

In 1979, he and Frances moved to Petersburg, Virginia, after Charles’ promotion to district sales manager. In 1983, Charles was again promoted to a district sales manager position in Buffalo, New York. In 1987, he retired from the (now) Norfolk Southern Railroad and returned to the Toledo area to reside in Perrysburg. In September of 1992 Frances passed away.

Charles married Cloe Parrish of Decatur, Indiana, in June of 1996. He moved to Decatur, Indiana, in 1996 and returned with Cloe to Perrysburg in 2015. She preceded him in death, passing away in August of 2018.

Charles was a long-time member and treasurer of Waterville Presbyterian Church in Waterville, Ohio, and attended First United Methodist Church of Decatur, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Wayne, Bud, Bob, Keith, Jim and Roger.

He is survived by brother, John Frey of St. George, Utah; sister, Mary Butler; son, William Joseph Frey (Dorothy Stegman) of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico; daughter, Lou Ann Frey (David Bruns) of Perrysburg; step-sons, Terry (Gretchen) Parrish of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Richard (Mariann) Parrish of Miami, Florida; grandchildren, Jessica Bruns-Frey of Perrysburg, Samantha Bruns-Frey of Toledo and Katherine Stegman-Frey of Richmond, Indiana.

A funeral service for Charles was held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, November 23, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy and Zelt Funeral Home, 225 West Adams, Decatur, Indiana. Viewing took place two hours prior, from noon to 2 p.m. Military funeral honors were rendered after the funeral by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.

A graveside service took place at 11 a.m. in Waterville, at Wakeman Cemetery on Monday, November 25.
