Municipal building features new art exhibit
“Lindsey Johnson: Nature of the Burn” exhibit containing 29 works is on display at the Perrysburg Municipal Building, 201 West Indiana Avenue through February 21.
Ms. Johnson, age 24, is among a small group of artists in the country who have turned their attention to the ancient art form of pyrography.
Pyrography–also known as wood burning–became synonymous with “woodburning kits” that were frequently given as gifts to children.
The artist’s work dispels the notion that wood burning is for novices, says the curator, Main ART-ery, adding that Ms. Johnson is among the talented contemporary artists re-defining wood burning as a fine art.
Ms. Johnson is known for her pen and ink drawings on paper and tattoo art. Her use of rod tips and techniques used to burn intricate designs into birch and basswood appears to be a natural fit for her drawing skills, the curator said.
