Nancy Levis Williams, a leader in many community causes in northwest Ohio and northern Michigan, died October 26, 2022, in Cincinnati.
For many years, she was a volunteer and served in leadership capacities for Planned Parenthood, the Louella Cummings Home for Girls, United Way, the Black Swamp Nature Conservancy, the Leelanau Conservancy and Munson Medical Center of Traverse City, Michigan. She and her husband were major donors to the Toledo Museum of Art, the Libbey House Foundation, and many other charities and political campaigns.
Nancy Cary Levis was born on May 19, 1929, the daughter of T. Middleton and Lola (Dunn) Levis in St. Louis. She graduated from the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York, and attended Vassar College. In 1948, she married Philip Williams of Minneapolis, and relocated to Houston, where Phil was employed by Bemis Bag Company. In 1957, the family moved to Perrysburg, when Phil took a job with Owens-Illinois, Inc. They were members of Carranor Hunt and Polo Club of Perrysburg, the Toledo Country Club, Belmont Country Club and Erie Marsh Preserve Gun Club. Starting in 1960, they spent many happy summers at Northport Point, Michigan, with their family, followed by four generations. They were members of the Northport Point Cottage Owners Association, the Northport Point Yacht Club and the Northport Point Club. In 1982, they relocated as yearround residents to Northport Point, where they established the Williams Company of Traverse City, a distributor of windows and doors. They returned to Perrysburg in 1997, and then moved to Twin Lakes, a retirement community in Cincinnati, in 2013.
She is survived by her sister, Lucy Levis Hazlegrove of Roanoke, Virginia; her children, Lucy W. Maish of Cincinnati, S. Judson Williams of Baltimore, Philip M. Williams of Palmetto Bay, Florida, and Christopher L. Williams of Woodinville, Washington; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phil; her parents; half-sisters, Jane and Louise, and brother, Thomas M. Levis Jr.
No services are planned. She will be interred next to Phil at a later date in the columbarium at the Atwill Memorial Chapel at Northport Point.
