William L. Schug passed away July 21, 2022, at the age of 97. Preceding him in death was his wife, Nancy; brother, Robert, and sister, Madeline.

Bill was a U.S. Army veteran from World War II. He was stationed in Hawaii, where he played the string bass in the Army band to entertain the troops and every evening he played “Taps.” Continuing his passion for music, he played in various big bands in the Toledo area, such as the Jack Runyan Band (25 years) and later joined Jeff McDonald’s band, Swingmania. He loved his dog, Bo and bird watching, and was a big fan of the Cleveland Indians.

He is survived by daughters, Susan Schug and Bilynda (Jim) Cox; grandchildren, Matthew (Kristi), Amy, Sarah, Tyler (Donna), Adam (LoriLynn), Kimberlie (Jason), James Jr. (deceased Joe and Spencer); greatgrandchildren, Tiffani, Brady, Aiden, Noah, Rio, Coe, Austin, Nolan, Hayden, Madeleine, Barrett, Olivia, Ava, Lauren and Justin, and one great-great-grandchild, Thorsten.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, August 4, at Perrysburg First Church, 200 West Second Street, Perrysburg, from 10 a.m., with a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home.
