St. Rose Catholic School seventh-grader Sammy Sandvik recently earned national recognition for an essay she authored for the VFW’s annual Patriot’s Pen competition.

Her essay, “How Can I Be a Good American?” received first place in the state of Ohio and went on to the national competition in April.
