Twp. trustees also oppose consolidation

At least for the Springfield Township trustees, Lucas County’s plan to consolidate 911 dispatching is not a done deal.

At the October 21 meeting, the trustees opted not to support the plan in its current form.

Trustee Andy Glenn, who is the township representative to the consolidation board, believes “there are still issues with the way this is being proposed.”

The trustee noted that the cost–more than $300,000 for Springfield Township–will be a burden to a number of jurisdictions. The Village of Berkey for example, “will have to layoff their police officer to pay for it,” he said.

Jurisdictions that can’t afford the cost can opt not to pay, but they risk being sued, Mr. Glenn said.
