ODOT prepares vehicles for the winter of 2017-18

There may be no fooling Mother Nature, but that hasn’t stopped the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District Two from trying to outwit her.

After two relatively mild and less snowy years, ODOT is gearing up for what could be a more typical winter in northwest Ohio.

The past several weeks have been busy for area ODOT garages with officials from the district office inspecting snowplows and related equipment.

On November 17, district mechanics visited the Lucas County garage in Maumee, methodically going through a 150-point inspection list, checking everything from wiper blades to brakes and hydraulic systems.

When bad weather strikes, plow drivers can work up to 12-hour shifts and their vehicles must be prepared to weather the storm, explained Dale Calcamuggio, administrative officer.
