Braves run roughshod over Blue Devils
The Springfield High School football team’s second trip to the Columbus area gridiron fared much worse than last year’s –a 24-14 win over Worthington Kilbourne - –as Olentangy moved the ball at will en route to besting the Blue Devils 53-33 to close out nonconference play.
The Braves maneuvered through the Springfield defense with a very balanced attack of 268 yards rushing and 266 through the air. They also bested the Blue Devils on special teams, notching a 64-yard punt return touchdown late in the first quarter that staked them to a 29-7 lead and blocking a 36-yard field goal try to close out the first half.
Springfield’s defense struggled to tackle much of the night while at other times several would-be tacklers put themselves out of position to make a play on the ball carrier. It was a far different scene from the shutout they pitched just one week prior.
